Over the course of David Duchovny’s acting career his characters have gone to some unusual places, from the alien environs of “The X-Files” to many a Los Angeles bedroom on “Californication.” But there is one place Mr. Duchovny has never been: on the stage in a professional capacity. (“Not professional,” he said in a telephone interview. “Very unprofessional.”) That’s about to change. On Wednesday, MCC Theater said Mr. Duchovny would make his proper stage debut in its coming production of “The Break of Noon,” a new pla ... [Continua a leggere]

David Duchovny is set to swap the profane, West Coast world of Showtime's "Californication" for the equally profane and obscene universe of playwright Neil LaBute in New York. The screen star will play the lead role in LaBute's new play "The Break of Noon," which is set to open at the off-Broadway Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York in October. The drama is a co-production with New York's MCC Theatre and L.A.'s Geffen Playhouse. The play is set to open in L.A. in February. Duchovny hasn't been confirmed for the L.A. cast. A spokeswoman for the Geffen said that the two theater companies ... [Continua a leggere]
'X-Files/30 Days Of Night' Comic Debuts: Your First Look At Mulder & Scully Vs. The Barrow Vampires!
X-Files investigators Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will collide with a brand new threat this July, thanks to a new series announced at this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago. Written by "30 Days of Night" co-creator Steve Niles and Adam Jones, guitarist for the band Tool, the six-issue series will send FBI Agents Mulder and Scully to Alaska just in time for the long season of darkness to take over the region. While investigating a strange murder, the pair discover (as usual) that all is not what it seems in the case. Veteran artist Tom Mandrake ("The Spectre") will provide interior ar ... This summer, WildStorm will publish an all-new comic book series combining two of the most popular horror properties of the last two decades: THE X-FILES and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. The six-issue series will be co-written by 30 Days of Night creator Steve Niles and rockstar-turned-writer Adam Jones, guitarist of the band Tool. The series will feature the moody artwork of comics industry legend Tom Mandrake (who, amongst all of his illustrious credits, just did some amazing guest pages in Victorian Undead.) Check out some words from Steve and Tom below: “I’m a huge X-Files fan an ... [Continua a leggere]
LOS ANGELES — David Duchovny says he's a changed man. "I'm filled with humility and gratitude," says the actor, who shot to fame on The X Files before being treated for sex addiction in 2008. "Before, I was focused on winning and deserving. I would say, 'Oh, I deserve that.' That's not grateful. Grateful is, 'Wow. I'm lucky. That's fantastic.' " Duchovny, who turns 50 in August, is sitting in a West Hollywood hotel suite discussing his new film, The Joneses (in theaters Friday). He plays Demi Moore's fake husband in this romantic comedy/biting satire about stealth marketing. As he d ... [Continua a leggere]
In 'The Joneses,' David Duchovny plays Steve, a father and a husband living the good life in the suburbs. Everything in his life is perfect ... except for the fact that it's all a lie. Steve is part of a made-up family, given every possible luxury product, and sent in to become role models for the rest of the town. The goal? To make everyone envy them enough to go out and buy those products. (It's such a diabolically brilliant marketing scheme that you have to wonder why it hasn't been tried yet.) We spoke to Duchovny at the press day for 'The Joneses,' where he talked about the fil ... [Continua a leggere]
'I am so proud of that franchise,' he tells MTV News.
BEVERLY HILLS — In his new movie "The Joneses," David Duchovny plays a salesman given a cushy (if somewhat unethical) job: He and his phony "family" move into a posh neighborhood and make everyone jealous of their toys, causing them to buy products that line the pockets of his employers. Several scenes talk about the so-called "ripple effect," something with which Duchovny is intimately familiar. Nearly a decade after the show that made him famous went off the air, Duchovny's work on "The X-Files" is still sending ripples all over the world. And with that in mind, the veteran act ... The Californication star on sex addiction, Nietzsche and secondary infections.
Q: This spring you're starring in a movie called The Joneses, in which you play the "father" of a cool but fake family that a corporation assembles to coax their neighbors into buying stuff. I suppose a lot of celebrities do the same thing. A: Yeah, sure. I haven't sold that much. But the culture that's embracing Twilight and Paranormal Activity and District 9 and 2012—you could kind of say that The X-Files sold that. Q: You helped release a media virus. A: Exactly. And now it's reinfected people. I guess it went dormant for a while. Q: You passed through a period of genuine pop-cu ... [Continua a leggere]
If you boast any familiarity with my blog, you probably already know that -- across the last five years -- I have written frequently abut the TV and film productions of Chris Carter and Ten Thirteen Productions. There are many reasons why I find myself continually drawn back to Carter's oeuvre. In broad terms, these reasons involve television history, the artistry of the particular programs, philosophy, and of course, personal taste.Historically speaking, The X-Files and Millennium have grown virtually synonymous with the decade of the 1990s. Carter's programs captured the Zeitgeist of that epo ... [Continua a leggere]
David Duchovny, star of Californication, on his literary ambitions, making a third X-Files movie, and his quest for an “uncensored id.”
Very few actors manage to create a Zeitgeist-defining character, let alone two, but David Duchovny—best known for playing alien-obsessed Special Agent Fox Mulder on The X-Files—has defied the odds with the Showtime original series Californication, which earned him a second Golden Globe for his portrayal of misanthropic, sex-addled novelist Hank Moody. The role was largely informed by Duchovny’s time as a Yale doctoral student in his 20s, a decade before he became a household name. “I envisioned that as my life: staying in academia to make a living and then takin ... The actor: David Duchovny, who became a star in the ’90s playing an FBI agent investigating the world’s freakiest mysteries on The X-Files. He went on to star in big-budget movies and low-budget indies, often showing a wry sense of humor even when working on the darkest material. He also wrote and directed his own 2004 feature film, House Of D. Duchovny currently stars on the Showtime series Californication as a conflicted writer and serial philanderer; the second season has just been released on DVD, and the third season launches on Showtime later this year. Californication ... [Continua a leggere]
[Continua a leggere]
Forget the 'X-Files': Gillian Anderson, one-time ‘world’s sexiest woman’, is about to tackle Ibsen in a new West End production of 'A Doll's House'
The first surprise is Gillian Anderson’s accent. I have heard about how she can slip from English to American as effortlessly as silk runs through fingers. Indeed, by way of research, I have watched her being interviewed by Jay Leno (for whom she adopted an American accent) and Michael Parkinson (an English one). I even know how and why she does this – she lived here until she was 11, moved there until she was 35, then, five years ago, came back to live here. Still, nothing quite prepares you for sitting opposite FBI Special Agent Scully and hearing the head gi ... [Continua a leggere]
The latest Badlands disappearance is a local woman who may still be alive. While Scully pursues the presumed abductor and escaped serial killer known as "Dante," Mulder explores the Hollow Earth – an underground realm of caves and tunnels with no small resemblance to Hell. Will he find the missing woman? Or will Dante reach her first? And what happens if the demons Dante claims haunt him turn out to be real. On Sale April 15, 2009 ... [Continua a leggere]
Many moments of the show are still vivid in all fans mind thanks to the music, for example the "Scully's Theme" that plays during the pregnancy story arc. In order to get to orchestrate music like this, do you get inspiration from pictures or is that a separated creative process? I was inspired for "Scully's Theme" from the incredible emotion of the story. I actually felt like part of Scully's family, and it was almost a religious experience for me, and how great that I was able to use a live singer! The "Teaser" from "Trust no 1" episode, which music is based on works such as Tcha ... [Continua a leggere]
