Mulder, Scully and Me: On Set as The X-Files Returns for a New Generation

Mulder and Scully entered a dark apartment, their flashlights on. They were searching for, what else, the truth. Scully went off by herself. "Mulder!" she shouted from off camera. She found something. Mulder turned and walked toward her voice. End scene. I was there. And I was verklempt. Yes, I'm talking full on tears in my eyes, hand clutching my chest. I was on set of The X-Files; Mulder and Scully are back and I was there to witness a piece of TV history. When The X-Files premiered in 1993, I was six years old. I knew it existed because my dad was a loyal viewer. He was in front of the TV ... [Continua a leggere]

'The X-Files' -- 1993-2002

EW Reunions #1

David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and creator Chris Carter reminisce about the genesis of the sci-fi series

“THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE”. So promised The X-Files, the groundbreaking sci-fi saga that debuted 20 years ago this fall. But the maxim that appears in the show’s credits- the mantra of questing FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)- was supposed to be something else. Creator Chris Carter forgets the original phrase, but he remembers that it wasn’t good. With time running out, and Carter hating the entire cretits sequence in general, the producer began brainstorming ideas for images (germinating seeds, a man’s morphing face) and wo ... COMIC-CON: How We Pulled Off The X-Files 20th Anniversary Panel

Last year Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and his girlfriend Holly were talking with my TV Guide Magazine bosses, and the topic of The X-Files came up. Vince reminded them that The X-Files was about to hit its 20th anniversary, and Holly suggested a panel -- perhaps at Comic-Con. The truth is out there. And here's the backstory on how we wound up putting together what I believe, not so humbly, was one of the highlights of this year's Comic-Con. My editor Debra Birnbaum emailed me last fall: Did I think we could pull off a panel devoted to the all-star writers and producers of The X-Files? ... [Continua a leggere]
