Gillian Anderson is back at work investigating things on TV! This time, she's got a British accent, blonde hair and better fitting clothing (sorry, "X-Files") and she's teaming up with "The Good Wife's" Archie Panjabi for "The Fall." "The Fall" is the "X-Files," "The Good Wife" and "Once Upon a Time" crossover you dreamed about ... sort of. Anderson stars as Stella Gibson in "The Fall," a BBC2 drama about a serial killer and the investigator brought in to take him down, which also stars Panjabi and "Once Upon a Time's" Jamie Dornan. Allan Cubitt wrote the series. "'The Fall' is a unique, fo ... [Continua a leggere]

The crowd got to their feet as Gillian Anderson came out to start her panel in the Marriott Atrium ballroom Sunday afternoon. She started off the panel by assuring everyone she was not drunk during her panel on Saturday. That’s just how she is, she said. For the first half hour, Anderson answered questions from the moderator before taking questions from the audience. The conversation focused predominantly on the projects she currently has out or that will be out soon, including three movies, Shadow Dancer, Mr. Morgan’s Last Love, and Sister (L’enfant d’en haut). L’attrice, in occasione del suo ritorno sul piccolo schermo nei panni di Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, sarà presente al festival per ritir ... [Continua a leggere]

Studio Ghibli revealed on Wednesday that X-Files actress Gillian Anderson will be working on the English language dub of Goro Miyazaki's film From Up On Poppy Hill. Known for her role as Special Agent Dana Scully in The X-Files television series and films, Anderson also voiced the character Moro in the English dub of Princess Mononoke. Studio Ghibli has not announced which character she will be voicing in From Up On Poppy Hill. Actor/director Ron Howard (Happy Days, American Graffiti, Arrested Development) will also play a role at the invitation of the dub's executive producers, Frank Marshal ... [Continua a leggere]
Sometimes chemistry surfaces in a gaze, or even a glance. It’s true for the self-indulgent novelist Hank Moody and his longtime, long-suffering love/baby mama Karen van der Beek, the on-again, off-again nexus of Showtime’s sexy, LA-centric comedy Californication. And it’s true for the actors who play them, David Duchovny and Natascha McElhone. “Even just the looks they throw each other,” says the show’s creator, executive producer and sole writer Tom Kapinos. “It’s like you believe that this is a couple who have been in love for a long time and c ... LOS ANGELES—“He was dressed better than me,” said David Duchovny, wearing a polo shirt and slacks, about Jon Hamm, whom we just interviewed. The “Mad Men” actor wore a suit. “I saw him.” He joked, “I didn’t like that.” Settling down into a chair, David said he just wrapped shooting Season Six of his TV series, “Californication,” where he plays Hank Moody, a hedonistic novelist. He confirmed that rocker Marilyn Manson will make appearances in the series. “Manson is a big fan of the show,” he disclosed. “A ... [Continua a leggere]
Over the course of his career, David Duchovny has played an F.B.I. conspiracy theorist who chases extraterrestrials, an undercover suburban marketer who sleeps with the nymphomaniac posing as his daughter‚ and a former hand model who keeps his prized limb in a homemade hyperbaric chamber. His role as Goat Man in Christopher Neil’s drama Goats, adapted from the Mark Jude Poirer novel of the same name, however, may still be his most eccentric character to date. A marijuana-smoking, goat-raising misfit, Goat Man becomes an unlikely mentor to Graham Phillips’s teenage protagonist ... [Continua a leggere]
Recently we got to speak with David Duchovny and Graham Phillips about their new movie “Goats” as part of an round table session with the press. Duchovny also discussed the upcoming season of Califonication and future X-Files films.
This is such a weird character. What was it about him that appealed to you? Do you ever do a character that doesn’t gets stoned? DD- Um…yeah, I don’t think I got stoned before…let me think about… X-Files I don’t think he ever took a drink. But now…? DD- well That wasn’t serious, you don’t have to think about it (laughs) DD- Well, I’m sorry but those are the kinds of nincompoop questions I get (smiles) so I have to take them seriously when I get them I’m like ‘Oh my god’ (smiles). The question being the characte ... [Continua a leggere]
After years of playing spooky Agent Fox Mulder on TV's "The X-Files" and in two big-screen "X-Files" movies, it's only natural that David Duchovny wants to lighten the mood a little bit. The 52-year-old actor won a Golden Globe for his hilarious role as troubled novelist and unrepentant ladies' man Hank Moody on Showtime's "Californication," the sixth season of which is scheduled to air in January. Now Duchovny appears on the big screen in the quirky comedy "Goats" as Goat Man — a chill, perma-stoned wild man of the desert who has inadvertently become the father figure to the son (Graham Phillips) of the hippie (Vera Farmiga) whose garden he's been tending for years.
We sat down with Duchovny as he waxed philosophical about nature vs. technology, the legalization of marijuana, the future of "The X-Files" and why getting to play guitar with Marilyn Manson was a high point of his life.
Did you base anything about Goat Man on a real person? He's an amalgamation of many things, personally. Chris [Neil], the "Goats" director, had an actual Goat Man in his past as a kid — a father-figure type, goat-herding person in the desert. But Chris didn't write "Goats," which is the coincidence. So did Mark Poirier, who wrote the book and screenplay. Chris had pictures of his actual Goat Man, which was helpful for me. Once I got the look, I had the key. You had to handle a lot of goats in "Goats." Were there any goatastrophes on the set? I wish I had known that word! Goats a ... [Continua a leggere]
Earlier today, I had the opportunity to sit down with David Duchovny at the members-only Soho House in West Hollywood to chat about his indie feature Goats. In the comedy, he plays Goat Man, a goat-herding sage who has lived with Ellis (Graham Phillips) and his New Age hippie mother (Vera Farmiga) since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of expanding one’s mind. While we will run the full interview tomorrow, we did want to share what Duchovny had to say about the possibility of a third The X-Files movie, especially after what writer/producer Frank Spotnitz told me about it a we ... CultBox caught up with The X-Files writer Frank Spotnitz today to chat about his new spy drama series, Hunted.
From the makers of Spooks, the eight-part series begins on BBC One this autumn and stars Melissa George (Grey's Anatomy) as a highly skilled operative for an elite private intelligence firm. Best known for writing nearly 50 episodes of The X-Files, Spotnitz was also co-executive producer of Millennium and co-wrote both The X-Files movies. Our full interview will go up next month, but in the meantime here's what Frank had to say on the subject of The X-Files... Were you disappointed that it’s not been possible to make a third X-Files film focusing on the 2012 alien invasion to be relea ... [Continua a leggere]
On Mr. Rogers and me.
I’ve made so many mistakes. But it is my feeling that you learn from failures, so I welcome them as often as I can. My favorite mistake occurred when I was 17. I was running for the elevator at my high school when the door shut on my arm. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in the hospital. I had fainted, fallen on my face, and knocked out my two front teeth, so I spent a week in the hospital getting tests on my heart and brain. Everything appeared normal. While I was in the hospital, the only teacher who visited me was my Latin teacher, who was named Mr. Rogers, of all names. I alw ... [Continua a leggere]
