Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter keep seeking the truth that's 'out there' as 'The X-Files' returns

f you have found yourself contemplating rewatching some old episodes of “The X-Files” to brush up before the upcoming Season 11 premiere on Fox this Wednesday, you’re in good company. “The mythology of this show, it was complex,” said series creator Chris Carter in a wild understatement. “Sometimes,” he admitted by phone from Vancouver, where he was recently finishing up the season finale, “I have to go back and remind myself of the way the puzzle pieces fit together.” After a 14-year hiatus, the beloved sci fi drama returned in 2016 for ... Scully and Mulder are back as Fox airs new TV episodes of 'X-Files' in nearly 14 years

FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully explored the strange world of "The X-Files" for more than a decade, unraveling government conspiracies, performing alien autopsies and denying the clear romantic tension that seemed to drive the two oddly paired partners from one impossible situation to the next. But last we saw them, the co-workers had donned swimsuits and were finally relaxing in a row boat in the middle of a vast ocean, bound for somewhere that was surely more pleasant. Though series creator Chris Carter left us believing that Mulder and Scully were headed for a sunnier and pr ... [Continua a leggere]

'X-Files' the trilogy? David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson say 'yes'

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny attend "The Truth Is Here: David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on 'The X-Files'" at the Paley Center for Media in New York.

Could "X-Files" fans be treated to a movie trilogy? If stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have their way, the answer is "yes." Appearing together Saturday at the Paley Center for Media in New York City to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the series' premiere, the actors said that they would both be amenable to making a third "X-Files" film. “All the principals are on board,” including “X-Files” creator Chris Carter, Duchovny said. “Gillian and I want to do it, so it's really up to 20th Century Fox at this point.” Whether the studio would be into ... ‘The X-Files’ at 20: Chris Carter still wants to believe

It’s been 20 years since “The X-Files” opened to viewers’ wanting-to-believe eyes, and the hit paranormal investigation drama’s creator, Chris Carter, doesn’t quite know what to make of that phenomenon. “It’s surreal,” he told a sold-out crowd Sunday at the Hero Complex Film Festival shortly after entering to a standing ovation. “It’s like an X-File…. Twenty years’ missing time.” Asked what he might do differently if he made the show now, he said, “It was of its time…. You probably could make th ... [Continua a leggere]

‘The X-Files’: Remembering mood and mystery of a sci-fi landmark

Three episodes from the landmark television series will screen as part of the fourth annual Hero Complex Film Festival.

PERSPECTIVE I came to “The X-Files,” which turns 20 this year, after its first season, and for a time I had no idea what was happening. This was a good way to watch a show whose greatest strength was its air of dreamlike mystery. Folded across the turn of the 21st-century, it was a millennial show for a millennial time, reflecting a popular preoccupation with apocalypse and messiahs, puzzling phenomena and unexplained mysteries, psychic surgeons and alien autopsies, random mutations and science gone too far. It was also, looking back on old episodes, a time of pay phones, answeri ... [Continua a leggere]

What’s more — you get to tell us which three episodes of the landmark series that detailed the exploits of intrepid agents Mulder and Scully that we’ll screen at the event. 'X-Files', 'Married ... With Children' casts reunite for Fox special

Hard to believe that it's been almost a decade since the weekly adventures of FBI Agents Mulder and Scully left TV screens. And almost 15 years since the Bundy clan took their familial misery off the air. But the casts of both shows will soon be reuniting to celebrate an even more surprising milestone: the Fox network's first 25 years on the air. "Fox's 25th Anniversary Special" is set to air April 22 and will include appearances from David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson of "The X-Files" (along with creator Chris Carter) as well as every member of the Bundy house: Ed O'Neill, Katey Segal, Chri ... Goodbye Mulder, hello Ahab: Gillian Anderson talks 'Moby Dick'

After forging one of the great female action roles on TV as (need I say it?) Agent Dana Scully in the “The X-Files," Gillian Anderson could have become a heroine of the American multiplex.  But instead, she’s become a mainstay of high-end literary adaptations, a fixture of “Masterpiece Theater.”  This week, she pops up in a lavish two-part adaptation of Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” airing tonight and tomorrow on the premium cable network Encore. Part of a starry ensemble cast that includes Ethan Hawke as Starbuck and William Hurt as th ... [Continua a leggere]

The 'X' factor

Los Angeles Times, 17 Marzo 2011

The work of Scully and Mulder remains influential. Six Flms being released this season exhibit shades of 'The X Files.'

There's a strange confluence of sciencefiction movies being released this season - six otherwordly films in six weeks. What's behind this phenomenon? A little investigation shows that although TV's "The X-Files" went off the air in 2002, the truth may be still out there - and we're not just talking about the flashlights and lab coats inherited by Fox's "Fringe." These half-dozen films might all be filed under X in one way or another. Consider:"The Adjustment Bureau"(March 4) The mysterious puppet-master of this well reviewed sci-fi/thriller quietly tend to the course of human history and ... [Continua a leggere]

The Sunday Conversation: Gillian Anderson

LA Times #1

The onetime 'X-Files' star portrays Wallis Simpson, the woman who caused a king to abdicate, in the 'Masterpiece Classic' miniseries 'Any Human Heart.'

Gillian Anderson returns to American television Sunday night as Wallis Simpson in the "Masterpiece Classic" miniseries "Any Human Heart," based on William Boyd's sweeping novel of one man's life spanning the 20th century. The PBS series, also starring Matthew Macfadyen, Jim Broadbent, Hayley Atwell and Kim Cattrall, runs through Feb. 27.Wallis Simpson seems to be everywhere these days. She's also a character in "The King's Speech," although your portrayal of her in "Any Human Heart" was very different. She seems like less of a siren and more of a monster.I don't know about monster. I think she ... [Continua a leggere]

David Duchovny to star in Neil LaBute's 'The Break of Noon'

David Duchovny is set to swap the profane, West Coast world of Showtime's "Californication" for the equally profane and obscene universe of playwright Neil LaBute in New York. The screen star will play the lead role in LaBute's new play "The Break of Noon," which is set to open at the off-Broadway Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York in October. The drama is a co-production with New York's MCC Theatre and L.A.'s Geffen Playhouse. The play is set to open in L.A. in February. Duchovny hasn't been confirmed for the L.A. cast. A spokeswoman for the Geffen said that the two theater companies ... [Continua a leggere]

David Duchovny: 'The X-Files' is equal to God

These days, every major genre film and hit show has a significant presence on the Internet, but that wasn’t the case when "The X-Files" became a spooky sensation in the 1990s. David Duchovny said that, like his character Fox Mulder, the relentless faith of true believers is astounding to behold. " 'The X-Files' was said to be the first Internet show," Duchovny said over coffee on a recent morning in Los Angeles. "We had chat rooms and fan sites and all that. Look, I’m usually five or six years behind whatever is hip. So it was around 2000 that I started doing e-mail and f ... [Continua a leggere]

Chris Carter gets all foxy about 'The X-Files'

When facing questions about the film, the writer-director turns into one of his own mystery men.

CHRIS CARTER is not the sort of guy you'd expect to produce shadowy stories about government conspiracies and alien invasions. Even as he's hard at work finishing "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" -- a new feature film based on the landmark science-fiction franchise he masterminded in the 1990s -- he's the embodiment of a relaxed California surfer, thoughtful and easygoing rather than tense and paranoid. The deadline to deliver his cut of the film to the studio is looming, but inside a cozy Malibu residence, he's calm and deliberate, watching scenes with a critical eye and decisively di ... David Duchovny, Mr. X-Files, says, 'God, what a great love affair'

The actor is paired up and on the hunt again for aliens and freaky folk. But first (and unlike Mulder), he declares his feelings for his FBI partner.

THE CAST and crew of the upcoming "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" were just a few weeks into filming in Vancouver when Frank Spotnitz, the co-writer and co-producer with creator-director Chris Carter, called star David Duchovny over to a laptop computer to watch a fan-made video on YouTube. It was a montage of scenes from the old "X-Files" show set to Sarah McLachlan's forlorn "When She Loved Me." "It was intensely romantic and it almost brought tears to my eyes," Duchovny recalled. "It really did. And it reminded me that we have at the core of 'The X-Files' this very powerful relationship. W ... [Continua a leggere]

The resurrection of X-Files mania

A peak at the 2nd installment reunites a dormant community. 'I felt like the person in the desert who finally finds water again,' one fan says.

They flew from Germany and England and Chicago to attend. They lined up at 5 a.m. outside the Moscone Center West in San Francisco fueled by contagious group excitement and caffeine. They sat through the boring "Shutter" panel to make sure they got good seats. One attendee estimates that there were 5,000 people packed into the 4,000 capacity convention hall and that's not including the spillover that ran down the various hallways. But God, it was worth it!Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and "X-Files" creator Chris Carter were at Wondercon last week (along with "X-Files" feature film writer Fra ...
