Is this the end of The X-Files? And if so, who’s really dead? And who’s not? What’s the story with that pregnancy shock? Below The X-Files creator Chris Carter takes our burning questions about the season 11 finale in the wake of speculation about the show’s future and star Gillian Anderson’s declaration that she’s finished playing Dana Scully. WARNING: Spoilers ahead! ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Okay, first: Walter Skinner. Just seeing his limp foot isn’t very conclusive — at least, in terms of TV rules. So are we to ass ... [Continua a leggere]

Darin Morgan penned some of The X-Files‘ funniest, quirkiest hours, including ‘Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose,’ the only episode to win an Emmy for writing. Here, he reflects on the art of satirizing Mulder and Scully. How did you persuade Chris Carter to let you go off in such idiosyncratic directions? The first one I wrote was [season 2’s] “Humbug,” and Chris just liked the story I pitched. He has always responded to my stuff — it’s more the fans who have a problem with the show’s change in tone. But I always felt one of ... [Continua a leggere]
Paying homage to James Whale’s 1931 movie version of Frankenstein, “The Post-Modern Prometheus” tells the story of a mutant man with a giant head and a Cher obsession who bears a resemblance to a comic book monster called the Great Mutato. When the local townspeople turn on the gentle mutant, Mulder and Scully whisk him away . . . to the safety of a Cher concert. In a fantasy sequence ripped straight from the pages of a comic book, the mutant is pulled onstage to dance with Cher (or rather an actor playing the performer, who is seen only from the side and behind) as she sings ... It’s the question even Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) can’t answer: What is their relationship? In a new promo for the Fox drama, Duchovny and Anderson attempt to make sense of Mulder and Scully’s dynamic: Are they “friendly coworkers”? Partners? “In the second movie we were married, we appeared to be married,” Duchovny says — and despite the fact that 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe never says as much, it’s not the first timeDuchovny has suggested that the pair got hitched somewh ... It isn’t The X-Files until Mulder and Scully are running through a cemetery. X-Files creator Chris Carter joined stars David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and Mitch Pileggi on the main stage at New York Comic Con on Sunday to tease the sci-fi series’ upcoming return — and debut a new trailer, which promises plenty more drama for the partners (and a longer wig!). As EW revealed in our exclusive season 11 first look, Scully has taken a turn for the worse since that season 10 cliffhanger found her rushing to save a sick Mulder on a gridlocked bridge. Although ... [Continua a leggere]
For a show about experiences that can’t be quantified, The X-Files isn’t lacking numbers: 208 (episodes), two (movies), one (Speedo). But the most significant might be 10 — as in, the 10 new episodes now filming in Vancouver. After ratings for 2016’s six-episode revival soared to UFO-worthy heights, the sci-fi drama will return in early 2018, reuniting David Duchovny’s believer and Gillian Anderson’s skeptic for another run of out-there cases. Along with a first look at the new episodes, series creator Chris Carter gave EW classified intel on what ... [Continua a leggere]
Exclusive: Karin Konoval returns for season 11 in new roles
Next year’s 11th season return of The X-Files will feature an actress who once played the show’s most notorious role. Karin Konoval (The Planet of the Apes trilogy) previously appeared on the series in 1996 playing a mutant-breeding amputee kept under a bed in “Home.” The episode was so notoriously disturbing that, for years, Fox declined to re-air it. “Home” went on to be considered one of the show’s finest hours. We’re told Konoval will play multiple roles in a rather scary entry in the new season. Teases showrunner Chris Cart ... [Continua a leggere]
Fox has taken the hint: The X-Files is going to largely avoid its wildly complex mythology episodes next season. The return of the sci-fi hit for the 2018 season contains 10 episodes, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back on board. A full of eight of them will be stand-alone episodes, Fox entertainment chairman David Madden promises. The move comes after last year’s revival received hugely split reviews, with the mythology episodes getting slammed by critics while the stand-alone mysteries were praised. “We’re really proud of last season,&r ... If Mulder invites Scully for another round of late-night baseball when The X-Files returns for its 11th season, David Duchovny won’t be the writer behind the magic. Duchovny has confirmed to EW that he will not be writing or directing for The X-Files in its next 10-episode season, though that’s not for lack of trying. “I always say if I have an idea, I would love to write and direct it,” Duchovny says. The X-Files star was no stranger to the creative process during the series’ original run. Duchovny wrote and directed two episodes & ... [Continua a leggere]
Was the Cigarette Smoking Man telling the truth?
“We’ve traditionally ended on a cliffhanger,” X-Files creator Chris Carter tells EW, “and this is as big a cliffhanger as we’ve ever done.” And how: The hit revival of Carter’s paranoia-chic supernatural saga ended with an apparent epidemic threatening to kill most of the human race, including Agent Mulder (David Duchovny) — and that was before a mysterious UFO appeared, with a spotlight pointed directly at Agent Scully (Gillian Anderson). We talked to Carter about what this could mean for The X-Files ’ future. ENTERTAINMENT WEEK ... [Continua a leggere]
New pair of YA novels debuts Jan. 2017
X-Files fans will be able to add a new chapter to Mulder and Scully’s story with The X-Files Origins series, a pair of YA novels about 15-year-old Dana Scully and 17-year-old Fox Mulder. EW can exclusively announce the two new novels in The X-Files Origins series, Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate. Each story is set in the spring of 1979, when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news. The books, acquired by Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, follow Mulder and Scully as they experience life-changing events that set them o ... [Continua a leggere]
Joel McHale isn’t lowering anyone’s expectations for The X-Files’ season finale. “It’s going to be the greatest of all time,” McHale told EW. McHale, who counts himself a “huge” fan of the sci-fi series, returns in Monday’s finale as Tad O’Malley, the conservative Internet talk show host whose conspiracy theories had a hand in bringing Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) back to the FBI. In anticipation of the finale, EW caught up with McHale to find out what else O’Malley has in store, why he thinks The X-Fil ... [Continua a leggere]
They involve some dancing.
We already revealed that Monday’s episode of The X-Files will feature an appearance by fan-favorite characters the Lone Gunmen. They appear as part of what X-Files creator Chris Carter describes as “a presumed psychedelic hallucination.” That same apparent hallucination also sees Special Agent Mulder (David Duchovny) hitting the dance floor for a rather elaborate routine – set to Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart.” Carter wrote and directed the episode, and talked to us about that dance number and the episode’s special guest star ... Let Chris Carter explain.
On Monday, the X-Files revival welcomes a few fan-favorite characters from the original series. Surely you recall Byers, Langly, and Frohike, the conspiracy nuts collectively known as the Lone Gunmen? The trio proved so popular with fans of the original show that they actually got their own short-lived spin-off series, The Lone Gunmen. After the show’s cancellation, the characters returned in a season 9 episode of The X-Files. And … well, they died. So, how it is possible that Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, and Dean Haglund are back on The X-Files in ... [Continua a leggere]
'I just felt that was worth exploring on a show like this,' Morgan tells EW
Warning: This story contains spoilers from Monday’s episode of The X-Files. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) has lost another family member. “Home Again,” the fourth installment in The X-Files’ six-episode event series, saw Scully and Mulder (David Duchovny) saying goodbye to Scully’s mother, Maggie (Sheila Larkin), who succumbed to a heart attack. EW talked to writer-director Glen Morgan about why this was Maggie’s time, the message she needed to send to Mulder, and which trilogy of episodes “Home Again” completes. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Fr ...
