Carter and Spotnitz field fan questions, leave the truth out there.

On April 17, 2008, writer-director Chris Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz appeared at the New York Comic Con to divulge a few details about the upcoming sequel X-Files: I Want to Believe. "It takes place in the present day so it's six years after the series ended," Spotnitz said in front of a packed crowd at Comic Con's IGN Theatre. "It's not an alien mythology story. It's a standalone, scary story focusing very much on Mulder and Scully – on who they are, where they are in their lives, and I'd say it's personal in a way that the series rarely could be because we were doing episodes of ... X-Files Marks the Spotnitz

The series producer discusses the upcoming sequel.

As a producer on eight of its nine seasons, Frank Spotnitz knows the truth about The X-Files even if he insists it's still out there for the rest of us. But if the upcoming movie sequel is any indication, the truth may be getting a little bit closer, even if we won't approach it until the opening day. Spotnitz spoke to IGN and a small group of online and international journalists, and offered a few insights into the forthcoming film. While he didn't divulge any actual details about the plot, or even much about the movie itself, Spotnitz spent several minutes reflecting on the legacy of ... [Continua a leggere]

Anderson Answers X-Files Queries

Anderson talks from the set of X-Files 2.

As far as sci-fi heroines go, there aren't many more famous than Dana Scully. The longtime skeptic provided the perfect fulcrum for Fox Mulder's diehard believer, and formed the other half of one of TV's most famous and successful partnerships. Now, some 15 years after she was first created, Scully is back and -- thankfully -- with Gillian Anderson in tow. Along with a small group of online and international journalists, IGN visited the set of the upcoming X-Files sequel and spoke to key members of the cast and crew, including Anderson. In addition to discussing her overdue return to th ... [Continua a leggere]

Duchovny Files Second Film

The man behind Mulder talks about the forthcoming sequel

Before 1993, David Duchovny was probably best known as transsexual agent Dennis/Denise Bryson on Twin Peaks -- and for many sci-fi and fantasy fans, that would have been more than enough to earn him eternal admiration. But 15 years, 173 episodes and now two movies later, he has become the equivalent of genre-entertainment royalty thanks to The X-Files, an iconic science fiction series that is currently being updated on the big screen for a second time. Along with a small coterie of journalists and reporters from other international and online outlets, IGN was invited to tour the set of the upc ... [Continua a leggere]

X-Files Folks Offer Hints

Carter and Spotnitz on Mulder and Scully's return.

At the recent Paley Festival X-Files reunion/tribute, I had the chance to speak one on one with both Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz about the upcoming new X-Files sequel. Carter, who wrote and directed the upcoming film, said that reuniting to make the film "was strange, but it was actually as natural as can be." Co-writer Spotnitz added, "It's amazing. I've just come off filming the movie for the last three months. To revisit characters who were gone is such a unique opportunity in Hollywood – to have a chance to come back to people like this."It's known that the film is a stand-alone ... [Continua a leggere]

X-Files Sequel Title Dispute

IGN sees new footage from the film and learns the title is still out there.

At the X-Files tribute/reunion at the Paley Festival Wednesday night, series creator Chris Carter was of course asked about the upcoming X-Files movie he directed and co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz. Asked why the film is happening now, Carter answered, "'Cause [20th Century] Fox said now or never! We said better than never." Carter said production had finished filming ten days earlier. Present on the reunion panel was actor Mitch Pileggi, who played Walter Skinner on the series. Pileggi is apparently not in the new film, and turned to Carter, jokingly asking "You guys did another movie?" ... [Continua a leggere]

Carter, Spotnitz, Anderson and Duchovny reunite at WonderCon to discuss their upcoming film.

Perhaps one of the biggest crowd pleasers of this year's WonderCon show was 20th Century Fox's presentation for the new The X-Files 2 movie. In attendance were series creator Chris Carter and writer Frank Spotnitz, as well as stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Right out of the gate, the group addressed the issues associated with the franchise's six year long absence."Because it'll scare the pants off of you," answered Carter when asked why this movie would be worth the wait. No Aliens for X-Files 2

When we last heard an update on X-Files 2, Rob Bowman — who directed Fight the Future and hopes to helm the sequel — said the project was waiting on a script from Chris Carter, creator of the X-Files and Millennium television series. Bowman also suggested that the new film would be a stand-alone story, rather than continuing the conspiracy theme of the show's later seasons and X-Files: Fight the Future. We're still waiting on that script, but it sounds like someone's going to get going on it soon. According to Sci Fi Wire, Frank Spotnitz has taken on the job of producing a screenpla ... [Continua a leggere]

It's hard to believe it's been seven years since The X-Files: Fight the Future was released in theaters, and that the intervening years have been devoid of sequels.Within the last year or so, pieces have slowly fallen into place for a second X-Files motion picture.
