X-Files creator Chris Carter's pretty tight-lipped when it comes to revealing details about the upcoming second feature film based on his late beloved series, even refusing to comment much on the details we recently reported on. But Carter and the film's co-writer (and regular series scripter) Frank Spotnitz did hint at the tone and themes that their highly anticipated X-Files: I Want to Believe, due out in July, would contain--when they sat down to chat with us on Friday, Day 1 of the 2008 New York Comic Con... When you look at everything that's going on at this convention--sci-fi, fantasy, h ... [Continua a leggere]

During Friday night's The-X Files: I Want to Believe panel at NYC Comic Con with the film's executive producer and co-writer Frank Spotnitz and director-executive producer Chris Carter, Spotnitz let a big cat out of the bag. He said that DC and Wildstorm Comics would be announcing a brand new X Files comic book series tomorrow during one of the many panels. The moderator said jokingly, "I think you just announced it," to which Carter added, "Don't tell anyone." Cut to — a million X-Files fans texting and emailing the scoop simultaneously. The X-Filesmania that was so rampant in the '90s ... [Continua a leggere]
It just kind of slipped out. While series creator Chris Carter was answering a question last night about other incarnations the franchise might take, he "spoiled" an official announcement (supposedly due today) that DC/Wildstorm is launching a new title in conjunction with the release of I Want to Believe. What else did Carter and collaborator Frank Spotnitz say about the new film and the future of The X-Files in general? Well, keep reading for some of the best nuggets and one-liners the duo delivered to their chomping-at-the-bit fans.By the way, that last part is no exaggeration. The way that ... [Continua a leggere]
Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz participated in an audience Q&A session for X-Files: I Want To Believe at the New York Comic Con on Friday night. As has been the case throughout the promotion for the upcoming X-Files film sequel, which sees the return of as FBI Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), major plot details were kept under wraps. Also, no new footage was shown (only the previously released theatrical trailer). But Carter (producer, director, co-writer, and series creator) and Spotnitz (co-writer, producer) did offer up a few tidbits. Here are som ... [Continua a leggere]
It was called "The Untitled X-Files Sequel." Then it was simply "The X-Files 2." And finally just a few days ago, the heavily-anticipated return of one of sci-fi's biggest franchises received its final title..."The X-Files: I Want To Believe," taken from the now-famous motto emblazoned across the famous poster in Agent Fox Mulder's office. But anyone thinking the name doesn't have a deeper meaning is as misguided as the Cigarette Smoking Man. "The title makes sense because [the poster] was really emblematic of Mulder's faith, and the struggle for his faith," stated series creato ... [Continua a leggere]
Carter and Spotnitz field fan questions, leave the truth out there.
On April 17, 2008, writer-director Chris Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz appeared at the New York Comic Con to divulge a few details about the upcoming sequel X-Files: I Want to Believe. "It takes place in the present day so it's six years after the series ended," Spotnitz said in front of a packed crowd at Comic Con's IGN Theatre. "It's not an alien mythology story. It's a standalone, scary story focusing very much on Mulder and Scully – on who they are, where they are in their lives, and I'd say it's personal in a way that the series rarely could be because we were doing episodes of ... Now that the title of The X-Files: I Want to Believe has been released, it can be revealed that SCI FI Wire and a group of journalists visited the movie's set in Vancouver, Canada, in February and saw that the source of that title will appear in a key scene: When Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) reunites with her former FBI partner, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny). Mulder has been living in a house in the woods outside Washington, D.C., since 2002, the year the Fox TV series ended. Six years will have elapsed since the end of the show and the film sequel, set to open in July. Mulder "was a fugitive ... [Continua a leggere]
The cloak and dagger operation over the title of the next X-Files movie is over. After months of refusing to reveal the name of the film, shot this spring in Vancouver, creator Chris Carter revealed Tuesday it will be called The X-Files: I Want to Believe. "I Want to Believe" is a slogan on a poster in the basement office of Fox Mulder, one of the two lead characters in the original TV series, which was cancelled six years ago. Original cast members David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are reprising their roles as FBI agents chasing the supernatural in the movie, th ... [Continua a leggere]
The truth is finally out there about the new "X-Files" movie title.
The second big-screen spinoff of the paranormal TV adventure will be called "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," Chris Carter, the series' creator and the movie's director and co-writer, told The Associated Press.Distributor 20th Century Fox signed off on the title Wednesday. The title is a familiar phrase for fans of the series that starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents chasing after aliens and supernatural happenings. "I Want to Believe" was the slogan on a poster Duchovny's UFO-obsessed agent Fox Mulder had hanging in the cluttered basement office where he and Anderson's Dan ... [Continua a leggere]

A few us stumbled upon Chris Carter in the catering tent early afternoon. We had him cornered. And caught off guard with a pastry hanging from his mouth. No better time for him to slip and actually give us some real answers about X-Files 2. Yet all we—the cream of the movie news press—could rally was a hard hitting probe regarding Larry, Carter's enormous standard poodle that'd been roaming the set. The sun is melting into an oil slick now. Several reporters grumble about the ever-increasing possibility of missing their flights. Carter has been promised to us all day. But h ... It began with a werewolf. I'm speaking about my interest, that is, in 20th Century Fox's brand spankin' new X-Files feature film. But for the sake of explanation and full disclosure, allow me to back up and come clean about a few things. As a fan once living in New York City, I attended one of the first X-Files fan conventions at the Javits Center. First in line. Opening day. Stamp "Chick Magnet" on me now. Yes, I had an appreciation of the show and, like so many out there, my fascination with the quest for truth - spearheaded by Fox Mulder and Dana Scully - checked out the back door when the ... Carter and Spotnitz on Mulder and Scully's return.
At the recent Paley Festival X-Files reunion/tribute, I had the chance to speak one on one with both Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz about the upcoming new X-Files sequel. Carter, who wrote and directed the upcoming film, said that reuniting to make the film "was strange, but it was actually as natural as can be." Co-writer Spotnitz added, "It's amazing. I've just come off filming the movie for the last three months. To revisit characters who were gone is such a unique opportunity in Hollywood – to have a chance to come back to people like this."It's known that the film is a stand-alone ... [Continua a leggere]
The X-Files Lexicon was lucky enough to gain a spot on the press line before the X-Files panel at Paleyfest in Hollywood on Wednesday, March 25, 2008. For some cast members, it was a first reunion since the show ended. Everybody was in good spirits and eager to talk with us. But as usual, the brain trust, Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, were tight-lipped regarding any details about the upcoming X-Files movie. Here’s how it panned out. 1) FRANK SPOTNITZ and CHRIS CARTER Lisa: Which episodes, if any, does the new movie share its tone with? FS: I have to say, there is no episode exactly li ... The beloved-made in Vancouver series hits the big screen again this summer. Its obsessed fans don't want to wait that long.
At least this much is true: The plot of the second — and, as yet, untitled — X-Files movie, which was filmed in Vancouver and is due to hit theatres July 25, includes a good priest and a bad priest. There’s some genetic engineering and some organ harvesting in the mix. There’s a horrific disease, and a warped and twisted religious cult. There’s an 11-year-old kid in a wheelchair, and someone’s head gets chopped off. It’s all true.Or it’s all false. Holly Simon, queen of the X-Files fans, is certain it’s all true, because she got the same in ... [Continua a leggere]
IGN sees new footage from the film and learns the title is still out there.
At the X-Files tribute/reunion at the Paley Festival Wednesday night, series creator Chris Carter was of course asked about the upcoming X-Files movie he directed and co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz. Asked why the film is happening now, Carter answered, "'Cause [20th Century] Fox said now or never! We said better than never." Carter said production had finished filming ten days earlier. Present on the reunion panel was actor Mitch Pileggi, who played Walter Skinner on the series. Pileggi is apparently not in the new film, and turned to Carter, jokingly asking "You guys did another movie?" ... [Continua a leggere]
