Satellite Awards Nominates 10 Films for Best Motion Picture

The International Press Academy will hold its awards dinner, recognizing film and TV in 31 categories, on Dec. 16.

Ten movies have been nominated as best motion picture by the International Press Academy, which announced nominees for its 17th annual Satellite Awards on Monday. The organization, composed of entertainment journalists for both domestic and foreign outlets, rounded up an electric group of films that includes Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Les Miserables, Skyfall, Moonrise Kingdom, The Sessions, Lincoln, Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty.

The Satellite Awards, which cover 31 film and TV categories, will be presented at a dinner Dec. 16 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City. The group also plans to announced further nominees for DVD and video games.

It previously had announced several special awards: Terence Stamp will be given the Mary Pickford Award for outstanding artistic contribution to the entertainment industry, Walter Murch will receive the Nikola Tesla Award for visionary achievement in filmmaking technology, Paul Williams will be given the Auteur Award, Bruce Davison is to receive the Honorary Satellite Award and young Beasts of the Southern Wild star Quvenzhane Wallis will be given the group's Newcomer Award.
