Mulder, Scully on new 'X-Files' film

MSNBC: David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reunites as Mulder and Scully in The X-Files, I Want to Believe, but returning to the characters they played for 9 years, was a challenge.

GA: It was more of originally thinking that it would be so easy, then experiencing that it wasn’t so easy…

DD: Also originally thinking we were going to be in the same environment as we left. In fact the movie starts us at a different environment and starts us in a different place in our relationship, so we had to figure out how to get back to the people we were, but also to honor this new phase of the relationship that plays out throughout the caper of the movie.

MSNBC: It’s been 10 years between the feature films, and this one almost never made it to the big screen.

CC: It was unexpected and it surprised me in the end.

MSNBC: It was an 11th hour decision pretty much, it was either now or never?

CC: That’s right. There was a writer’s guild strike looming, I was having some contractual issues with FOX. Those resolved, they called and said, if you want to do this movie, which they talked to us about 5 years earlier, if you want to do this movie, you got do it now, and since, so we said okay, let’s do it.
