Canadian actress Aliza Vellani has been cast in a mystery guest-starring role on Fox’s The X-Files, TVWise has confirmed. The six episode revival is just about to enter production in Vancouver, Canada for a January 24th premiere.
Scant details are available about the role that Vellani will play, with no one prepared to say much of anything on-the-record. The most I was able to get out of one source was that the character is a guest lead in the “best traditions of The X-Files”. It was Vellanni’s agent Emilio Salituro, of the Vancouver based Lucas Talent, who first let word slip on Twitter about the casting.
Aliza Vellani is a very active actress in Vancouver, having appeared in numerous US and Canadian series which are shot in the city, including Motive, Rush and Mistresses. She plays the recurring role of Marcy on The CW’s iZombie, which, again, is shot in Vancouver. Last year, she also starred in ABC’s drama pilot Exposed, which did not go to series.
On The X-Files revival, Aliza Vellani will be joining a cast which, is being led by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who are reprising their iconic roles as Mulder and Scully. Mitch Pileggi is also on-board to reprise his role as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner; while Joel McHale (Community) was recently cast as Tad O’Malley, the anchor of a popular conservative Internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Mulder.
A key part of Fox’s 2016 line-up, The X-Files is envisioned as a follow up to the original nine season series and both feature films. Series creator Chris Carter is shepherding the six episode revival, which he is also writing alongside Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong. The executive producers are Chris Carter and Glen Morgan, while Darin Morgan and James Wong are also attached to direct.
